Watery eye / epiphora

Watery eyes or Epiphora are common and can affect one or both eyes.

A variety of causes can contribute to watering, the most common one being dry eyes. Other reasons can be the position of the eye lid, the effectiveness of the blink (lagophthalmos), the presence of meibomian gland dysfunction (blepharitis) or a blockage of the tear drainage into the nose. In many people, it may not be one single reason, but several that need to be addressed in order to improve the tearing.

A comprehensive eye, eyelid and lacrimal (tear duct) assessment is needed to determine the cause of your watery eyes and recommend treatment.

Dr Ullrich can perform a detailed assessment and discuss treatment options with you. These may vary depending of the cause for your watery eyes.
